I grew up in California and played a variety of outdoor sports but never disc golf. Ironic, since California is where disc golf was born. When I wasn’t on the field I usually had my hands in something. From taking radios apart with my father to rebuilding my bike, it seems as if I was always looking for ways to improve products.  For the next three decades I found myself attracted to solving problems wherever and whenever I had the chance.

Whether it was creating something in the operating room to extract a broken implant or designing a new toilet tank that saves water, I seemed to be attracted to completing the task. I consider myself an inventor first and am very critical of the quality of products being sold on the market which has driven me to make my own products to suit my needs.

This way of life has led me to come up with some great ideas as well as some not so great ideas. When I was finally introduced to disc golf in the 90’s, it still seemed to be in its infancy. But I quickly fell in love with the sport as millions of others do today.  Disc golf is still a young sport and is projected to continue to grow at alarming rates. This will make room for new products and opportunities within the disc golf community. I am confident that this new venture in my life is going to fulfill my need to create some useful disc golf products to bring to the market.

Gypsy Rose

The name Good Dog Disc Golf was inspired in part by my love for my 3 year old Border Collie, “Gypsy”, who is always there to help me improve my throwing technique. She makes me throw 3 times a day and when I injured my throwing arm, Gypsy was there to remind me that she didn’t care and insisted on her daily disc sessions. So, I had to learn how to throw left handed.

I also learned that I never had to go get the disc, which turned out to be more useful than being a lefty, and I utilized her retrieval skills to work on my form, becoming more fluid as time passed. Gypsy loves her discs just as much as I do and she has been instrumental in teaching me that sometimes you gain more when you give.

By sliding her nails under one side of the disc and pulling with the other paw, Gypsy added her input on the design and helped lay the foundation for the development of our new disc retriever DiSCout™
